Thozha is a 1996 Indian Tamil-language romantic action thriller film directed by Madhu, produced by A. D. Subba Rao and edited by R. N. Nambiar. The film features Sivakumar and Lakshmi in the lead roles with Nassar, Sarathkumar, Ramya Krishnan, Radha Ravi and Sanghavi playing supporting roles. The film was released on 30 March 1996 and received positive reviews.
Plot [ edit ]
Viji (Sivakumar) is a newly married man who is falsely accused of murdering his wife. His parents (Nassar and Sarathkumar) hope he will be acquitted, while his fiance (Ramya Krishnan) and the village women and men hope he will be convicted.
He is in police custody while his mother is working at a bazaar. At the home of the police head (Radha Ravi) Viji has a flashback of his childhood with his friends. Viji was the only one in the village to lose his parents when he was young, and his aunt (Sanghavi) adopted him.
Later, Viji is freed from jail. He wants to take revenge on the culprits. While on his way home, he finds his wife's dead body in their house. The police head tells him to report the matter at the first police station. With Viji's help, a robbery takes place. As a result, the thief gets arrested.
Viji is sentenced to five years imprisonment. The police head bribes Viji's friend to help him get Viji freed. The friend then takes Viji to Chennai (then known as Madras), where Viji finds out his ex-wife (Vimi) has been living with her father (Thotta) after he divorced her. He then goes back to the village and searches for the girl he loves, who happens to be his ex-fiance. He realizes the girl has been kidnapped by her father and that she is being held prisoner inside the village temple.
Viji helps her escape from the temple and they begin to live together. But his ex-wife refuses to live with Viji and wants to live with her husband. She asks Viji to return to the village with her, but Viji promises to stay with her if she comes to Chennai with him. When they arrive in Chennai, Viji is accused of the murder of his wife.
