Commercially available connectors of this type which may be used for commercial airline applications, have no provisions for compensating for thermal expansion and contraction, and have no provisions for maintaining solder joints on insulated high voltage conductors which are attached to contact pads of the electrical connector. The prior art electrical connectors usually require the use of some sort of clamping arrangement which is capable of maintaining the high voltage conductors of an insulated wire bundle within the insulator of the high voltage conductor. A large clamping force is necessary because a relatively large pressure is needed to prevent the transmission of electric current between the two end connectors. It is also important that the clamping force be substantially uniform around the circumference of the insulated conductor at all times. A loose clamping force will allow relative sliding between the two ends of the conductor, which in turn will tend to cause solder joint failure and loss of conductivity. The requirement for uniform clamping force tends to make such connectors relatively heavy, bulky, and not suitable for use where electronic flight control components are located closely to the body of the airplane because such components require quite a bit of clearance to the body.

Thus, a need exists for an electrical connector which is capable of establishing voice and data communications between the ends of insulated high voltage conductors, which does not require any significant clamping force during the conduct of normal operations, which is not susceptible to damage during the conduct of normal operations and which does not interfere with the location of other components which are used in electronic flight control systems.Discount Brand Shoes
